Central Queensferry
The existing traffic-calmed section of the High Street* largely conforms to the 20mph regulations. The installation of additional traffic calming features on Edinburgh Road and Newhalls Road allowed the introduction of a 20mph limit on the whole route fronting the Firth of Forth in the historic heart of the town. Consultation, by local public exhibition, on the measures which are incorporated in a larger proposal to improve the amenity of the Hawes Area, was carried out in July 2006. The traffic calming features were constructed between January and May 2007.
*This area was traffic calmed in 1996. In the decade before this improvement was carried out there were 10 injury road collisions, and in the decade after, there have been 4. This 60% reduction in collisions compares with a general fall in injury collisions throughout the whole council area of 19% over the same period. The area in front of the Hawes has a recent road collision record which gives cause for concern and it is anticipated that the extension of the traffic calmed area and introduction of the 20mph limit will lead to a similar improvement in road safety.

Hopetoun Road
The zone is situated between Stewart Terrace, Hopetoun Road, Society Road, Forth Place and Walker Drive. Initial consultation on the proposed measures was undertaken between 06 January 2006 and 03 February 2006. A total of 390 explanatory leaflets were delivered to households within the zone area, which generated 17 responses. The majority of the responses were from residents living in cul-de-sacs off the main Hopetoun Road / Society Road / Farquhar Terrace route, objecting to the proposals. In addition, the Hopetoun House Preservation Trust had concerns about event access to Hopetoun House. As a result of the consultation, the 20mph area was reduced in size and only those traffic calming features on Farquhar Terrace and the west section of Walker Drive have been constructed at this time ie TCFs 1-6 and 17 (as the vast majority of collisions have been located in this part of the area). The traffic calming features were constructed in July 2006.
