What happens next?
It is anticipated that the construction of the Newbridge, Niddrie Mill, North Fort Street, Viewcraig and Dean Park 20mph zones will be carried out at the end of spring 2011. Prior to construction, residents will be informed either by letter or through notices on lamposts in the area.
In addition to the physical works in the road, the Council needs to promote new Traffic Regulation Orders to formally make the roads in the zone subject to a 20mph speed limit. Notices for these orders will be posted in the local press and on street during autum 2010 and formal objections will be invited at that stage. Should the Council decide at that stage not to proceed with the formal change to the speed limit, an alternative will be used at the entry to the traffic calmed zone rather than the 20mph roundel sign.
